Treating cancer that has spread to the liver
An ominous sign for a cancer patient is when cancer spreads to the liver.
There’s not usually a lot that can be done, but, an interesting finding in Science Daily reports:
Placing tiny radioactive spheres directly into the liver through its blood supply halted growth of tumors that had spread to the organ in 71 percent of patients tested in a small clinical trial, researchers from Mayo Clinic Jacksonville report.
as a matter of fact, I think my mother died of liver cancer rather than her lung cancer. So, that’s why some headlines in cancer research still grab my attention every now and then.
Maybe this will be a breakthrough in treating cancer metastises to the liver, maybe it won’t, I don’t know.
But, headlines like this still get my attention because I think my mother actually died of her liver cancer rather than her lung cancer, and, some courageous people with advanced cancer volunteered for these trials to help other people.
