Thoughts on Gerald Ford’s death
This has got nothing to do with anything, really, but, in watching the coverage of Gerald Ford’s funeral, I am struck by how exhausting it must be for his family.
When my mother died this past summer, we ended up having to wait 5 days between her death and her funeral because of the church schedule. Other than visitation, we didn’t really have anything going on in between, yet, it was physically, and, emotionally exhausting. I can’t imagine what it must be like for the Ford family.
Additionally, I can’t imagine what it would be like to have to do this in front of the world. I know that’s what you sign on for when you choose a public life like that, but, still to have to bury your husband of 58 years while the world watches has got to take it’s toll.

Poor little Betty Ford is so frail looking, I’m so scared she’s just gonna break in two. Even my kids said “At least they’ll have a couple days to rest before the funeral.”
Speaking of aging, the thing that made me go “Whoa” on the Fords is remember how when Ford was president, his kids were so young and beautiful? They were like, the perfect family. They were all blonde and, except the one brunette son but he was still hot and now…they look like normal, aging people. It was just kinda mind blowing to me.

On the downside, I agree that it must be tough to have to deal with the cameras and the press, etc.
On the upside, I am quite sure that Betty wasn’t running home in between viewing sessions, and trying to cook something or grab some cold cuts, etc. to feed guests. I feel safe in assuming that a caterer, and handlers and people to ensure everything went smoothly were in ample enough supply so that she didn’t need to worry about some of the pesky details that us common folks(ok me… you are far from common) need to be concerned with.
