The 40-70 Rule
I talk a lot about the need to talk to your aging parents about aging issues and planning long before you need to.
You never know when you’ll have to step in, and you need to know what’s going on. Trust me, I’ve been there.
Home Instead Senior Care tells us about the 40-70 Rule where this talk should occur when a parent turns 70 or a child turns 40.
They offer communication tips as well as a conversation starter guide.
It’s not always easy, in fact, it can be awkward, but it has to be done, even when you think your parents are too young for you to have to worry about that. But, remember, illness and accidents can happen to anyone, it’s better to have an uncomfortable moment or two than be caught off guard.

Of course, it is something everybody SHOULD be doing… myself included. Guess I had better get to it. Thanks for the reminder… again. (seriously)
