Sometimes you have to choose which end of the sandwich gets your attention
Jenn has a touching post today over at Mommybloggers about how her own mother’s illness and death, and her response to it, has affected her children. Though I’m pretty sure I will be cited by the grammar police for ambiguous use of pronouns in the previous sentence, go over and read it. I’ll be here when you get back.
You’re back! Even though I am fortunate enough to be in the same town as my mother, I greatly fear affecting my children in an adverse way while being away from them with her during her illness and hospitalizations. However, I’m gradually learning that you simply do what you have to do. Kids are resilient, and, there’s nothing wrong with them learning by example that caring for an ill family member is just what any of us may be called to do someday.

Who knows, maybe the lessons they are learning now will help them when the shoe is on the other foot and they are in the sandwich generation. Little sponges are absorbing all of it! ;-)

Hi Jenn and Elizabeth,
I have a thought for both of you - because I did not see it in either of your posts.
What didn’t I see? Alcohol/drugs. Both of you are blessed to have been able to function to your fullest at a time when you were needed the most - both to serve and to teach. And you both have done well.
Your children know. They’ve seen it. The seed is planted.
I know so many who’ve not been there… their children see that also. Big difference.
Take Care,
Mark
