Regular alcohol consumption may cut arthritis risk in half

by Elizabeth on June 5th, 2008

Glass of WineHere’s some news that might make a few people raise their glasses in a toast: drinking alcohol may cut the risk of rheumatoid arthritis by up to 50%:

A regular tipple cuts the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis by up to half, Swedish research suggests.

The Karolinska Institute assessed 2,750 people in two studies, Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases reports.

The risk was up to 50% lower for those who drank the equivalent of five glasses of wine a week compared with those who drank the least, they found.

Though the study acknowledges that too much alcohol is bad for you, I may finish up the wine in the fridge.

You know, for my health and all.
