People turn more liberal with age

by Elizabeth on March 16th, 2008

Heh, no one told my dad or my mother in law this that people turn more liberal with age.

I wonder what I’ll be like, and what age is the magic one where this is decided.

I have a real problem with this, because if that were true, then in theory shouldn’t Florida be the “bluest” (and I don’t mean hair) State in the Union?

How do you explain “graying” States like that being decidedly “red” in the past several elections?

The study did not take into account the same people at different ages, so it could simply be that the seniors they interviewed just started out more liberal than the younger folks they interviewed, (Of course the opposite could also be true) so without being able to track particular individuals over a period of time, this study is flawed to a point that it can be interpreted (or refuted) in any number of ways, and is statistically useless (in my not so humble opinion of course)

It certainly seems to be true in our little household. My mother has voted Republican her entire life (she’s 86) and now she is for Obama!!

I’ve always heard, attributed to Churchill, that he who is young and not a liberal has no heart, but he who is old and not conservative has no head.
