Lotsa Helping Hands
Lotsa Helping Hands, a website that helps answer the question, “What can I do to help?” when someone is in need.
From the site:
It’s an easy-to-use, private group calendar, specifically designed for organizing helpers, where everyone can pitch in with meals delivery, rides, and other tasks necessary for life to run smoothly during times of medical crisis, end-of-life caring, or family caregiver exhaustion. It’s also a place to keep these ‘circles of community’ informed with status updates, photo galleries, message boards, and more.
I’ve not used it myself, but, there’s one set up for a teacher at the kids’ school, it looks like a great idea.

I love this idea. It emphasizes practical help, helps people be useful and it keeps everyone busy instead of feeling sorry for themselves.

I am going to send this link to a friend of mine. She is coming upon the birth of her first child. Her mother-in-law lives with them and is facing a diagnosis of a relapse in cancer. Her husband’s family refused to pitch in the first time, even to take her to doctor’s appointments. This sounds like it could be a big help for her if she can set something up.

‘filing this one under ideas that I wish I had ‘thunk’ of. Great concept. I wonder how it will be promoted within a group/community?
