Is your ring finger the key to arthritis?
Many people are caring for elderly relatives or friends with arthritis.
It’s painful and often debilitating and sometimes we wonder if that’s what the future holds for us?
Though there’s no crystal ball, could a look at your own ring finger give you an indication of your arthritis risk?
Perhaps.
A study of index to ring finger length ratio has revealed that having uncommonly long ring fingers raises the risk of developing osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis that results in severe pain in the joints.
You just looked at your own hand, didn’t you?
For those of us long ring fingered people, there’s lots of new treatments for arthritis out there, but, prevention is key. We can’t control genetics or the passage of time, but, weight control and regular exercise (isn’t it always?) are keys to protecting your joints.
