Nikki at the OC Register’s The Mom Blog is finding out what the term Sandwich Generation is about as her aging parents prepare to move close to her:
It was my mom’s stroke at my home during their Christmas visit - and her six-week recovery - that led my parents to the conclusion that they needed to sell their Pacific Northwest home of the last 40 years and relocate to O.C., so they can be closer to me, my husband and kids.

I truly understand all that is going on. 1 year ago made a big change. Sold my much loved country home and built a smaller home in Nashville to be close to children and grandchildren.
I felt deeply that I should do this while I was still able to handle all the details and healthy.
Several of my 4 children questioned me doing this at this time. Thought I could do it later in life. But I went with my heart and it all fell in place.
It was difficult and tiring and I am so happy I started the process at 70 instead of waiting until I was older or there was an emergency.
But I truly miss my small town home and have started visiting every 2 weeks.
Miss my old friends. It is difficult to start over at any age but especially as you age.
Best wishes to this family
