My parent’s wedding anniversary

Today was my parents wedding anniversary.
I called my dad to see what he was up to today, and, he had several things to do. He sounded really upbeat, so, I didn’t say anything.
Sounds weird, I know, but, I think saying nothing was the right thing. I’ll see him again in the morning, […]

The Death of a Parent

Jill Fallon writes a beautiful 3 post series about her mother’s death at Legacy Matters, and, Estate Vaults.
The first post, My Mother is Dying, tells of her colon cancer diagnosis, and, her rather rapid decline.
A Beautiful Death describes her joyful last days, and, finally, she wrote a Eulogy for My (her) Mother.
It’s a little […]

Heat Tips for Seniors

We’re in the middle of summer in some parts of the world, and, it’s especially important for the elderly and the young to be cautious when the temperatures soar.

Faith in Action: Volunteers for Elders

I’m not really trying to reproduce everything that Carol writes, but, this one was too good to not join in spreading the word.
From the website:
Faith in Action brings together people of many faiths to help their neighbors in need. Faith in Action volunteers shop, cook, drive or just check in on the millions of Americans […]

While it may be only tangentially related to being in the Sandwich Generation, the idea of this book just cracked me up for some reason, even though it’s all mostly true.
Via the lovely and talented RB, I discovered, Being Dead is No Excuse: The Official Southern Ladies Guide to Hosting the Perfect Funeral.
Now, one might […]

Wii sweeps retirement communities

It may just be my own mad, mad desire for a Wii talking, but, I love to see these stories about senior video gamers.
I never really thought about it before, but, I thought this part was sort of cool:
For seniors who can’t play sports any more, the Wii approximates the motion of the games […]

Generation Media Test

Despite the backlash of naming generations, I enjoyed Penelope Trunk’s post at Brazen Careerist, What generation are you part of, really? Take this test.
It uses technological indicators to assess your “true” age by how you use media.
I’m young again! It told be I was a Generation Y-er.

Are Baby Boomers that different from past generations?

Mark, at the The Obligation of Enlightenment, has a interesting post about Baby Boomers being the Sandwich Generation.
He maintains that the obligations of caring for children and aging parents are simply what you do as a part of being in a family:
Every generation spends a portion of their lives sandwiched between generations. It used to […]
