It’s a wheelchair, not a stupid stick

Since my father has been in the wheelchair, I have really noticed people talking down to him. While I know that it is, for the most part, unintentional, it happens.
For example, at the doctor’s office or at the store, people always look at me when it comes time to pay even though he is sitting […]

A different perspective on the Sandwich Generation

Virtual Doug has an interesting post about being in the Sandwich Generation.
He writes about being raised to be self-reliant, a quality valued in American culture, yet, for example, in the Asian culture, filial piety dictates that caring for aging parents involves being physically present and doing the day to day care.
He looks at the Sandwich […]

We have our little routine every day, I pick him and his chair up and take them to his work (he’s a teacher), and, I pick them up in the afternoon and we run errands or go to […]

Hi, there!

This evening, when I realized just what a cliche I have become, I thought of you guys and decided I should write something.
Some of you may be following the saga over at my other place, but, essentially, my father’s back is getting worse and worse. As a matter of fact, he can’t walk and is […]

And the beat goes on

Sunday was my Dad’s birthday, it was also the first “occasion” to pass since my mother died. Overall, he is doing well with everything, but, I’m sure this event highlighted his situation.
We took him out to lunch as is customary for our family, but, we went to a restaurant that wasn’t “usual” for us, perhaps […]
