Lost childhood

As I’ve written before, I’ve often wondered if any age feels like the “right” age to have to parent your parent. As whiny as I can get about it, I could never imagine doing this as a teenager. How sad that there are so many, at least I had my childhood.

Helping out

One of the best things you can do for a family who is caring for another family member who can’t be left alone is to make a specific offer of a time you can come stay with the person. There are a couple of my mother’s friends who come by some afternoons so my dad […]

Planning to leave home

My dad admitted to me today that he wont be able to handle my mother’s care at home once school starts in August (he’s a teacher). So, in the next few weeks, we will be making firm plans to move her to a residential hospice.
I’ve hoped that he would reach this conclusion soon, not because […]

Quiet Care Home Health Security System

The Quiet Care Home Health Security System (Warning, has sound that starts when you land on the page. Points deducted by me for stuff like that, but, I digress.) is either a great idea or a scary idea, I can’t decide which.
It’s designed for seniors living alone, and, it tracks their activities and alerts the […]

I sure wish I had read this first.

Well, hi there. I still live here.

Oh, the irony of not being able to write a decent post about the Sandwich Generation because I have been busy with my ill parents, and, my own kids.

Surgery Went Well

My dad’s surgery went well, he’s fine. Thank you for all your nice wishes.
I am starting to wonder if they might keep him an extra night in the hospital (nothing wrong), though. The blasted blood thinners he takes makes it hard for stuff to heal. That would be a big problem since the Justice League […]

More fun in the sandwich

My father is having surgery tomorrow. The, um, same father that takes care of my mother. The same mother that, you know, can’t be alone (advanced lung cancer). So, the next 2 days involves the precision planning of 3 sitters, my husband, my 80 year old mother-in-law, and, me.
It also involves me getting up at […]

April will be among us someday.

A sandwich generation-er in the making.
(Sorry if you can’t read it, I’m new to Wordpress and can’t figure out how to do pop-up images. April is upset because her parents are buying burial plots)

Deep thoughts

Heh, I just realized I’m sandwiched in by my dog, too.
We have a 17 (yep, seventeen) year old dog. I was supposed to go to my mother’s house today to stay with her for a while, but, when we returned from vacation late last night, we realized the dog had a very large abcess on […]
